Using An Improvisational Mindset To Develop Leadership Competencies And Organisational Change

A Talk by Alex Steele (Director, Improwise Ltd)

About this Talk

In this talk, Alex Steele explores new thinking and practices in the interface between organisational development, neuroscience, leadership development, organisational psychology, innovation and improvisation. Alex brings together his two professional worlds as an organisational development consultant and coach by day, and as a professional jazz pianist by night, to provide some fascinating insights into the value of adopting an improvisational mindset to create personal, team and organisational change. He explores how these approaches can create a powerful culture of curiosity and experimentation within teams and organisations.

Alex takes ideas from the world of jazz and improvisation, and he explores ideas about the art of collaboration, creativity, presence, trust, dealing with uncertainty, and ways of creating personal and organisational change. In this talk, Alex demonstrates ideas through the language we use, and he digs deeply into what it means to be a brilliant human being. Alex is challenged during the talk to demonstrate these ideas using his piano and the art of improvisation. He accepts the challenge with gusto, energy and enthusiasm, and the result is a spontaneous piece of music, improvised especially for this occasion!

Alex tells stories of how some of the world’s jazz masters have applied these ideas, and how we can use those same ideas and practices to bring about transformational personal and organisational change. Alex shares his passion, energy, knowledge and experience of working with many of the world’s leading organisations, making the impact and value of the improvisational mindset available to everyone.
